The number of Byetta lawsuits being brought to the courts has risen dramatically due to new information being released linking this defective drug to numerous dangerous Byetta side effects. The law firm of Levin, Simes, Kaiser & Gornick contains numerous consumer attorneys who have significant experience dealing with Byetta lawsuits. Please read the information below to learn more about Byetta.

Byetta (exenatide) has been targeted by the FDA following reports of serious adverse effects associated with use. Approximately 40 cases of Byetta-related pancreatitis have been reported to the FDA, including six deaths.

Byetta is an injectable drug used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Although the FDA currently has no plans to request a recall of Byetta, it is expected to issue a black box warning label – the most severe FDA warning – for the under fire drug.

The FDA continues to evaluate Byetta to determine the extent of pancreatitis injuries associated with its use. The drug has not yet been conclusively identified as a cause of pancreatitis, though experts do believe a link exists between the two.

Byetta Personal Injury and Wrongful Death

On August 19th, 2008, a Virginia man filed the first personal injury lawsuit against Amylin Pharmaceuticals and co-marketer Eli Lilly & Co. After using Byetta to treat his diabetes, the man developed acute pancreatitis, requiring hospitalization in December 2007.

The lawsuit cites a failure to adequately warn consumers with regards to the risks of pancreatitis associated with Byetta use. It claims that physicians were not presented with enough information about the drug and were therefore unable to fully evaluate candidacy for its use. Had physicians been aware of the risk of acute pancreatitis, they may have been in a better position to prescribe an alternative medication.

The costs associated with medical care, loss of work and general pain and suffering should not have to be assumed by a Byetta injury victim. Byetta personal injury lawsuits can compensate people injured as result of using the diabetes drug. Wrongful death lawsuits can be filed on behalf of those who died as a result of conclusive Byetta-related complications.
